This facility consists of the installation of a 25MW/45.8MWh battery energy storage system in Provincetown, MA. This BESS will be operated in parallel with the local distribution system and will also be operated as an “Island” under certain contingencies. The system is comprised of a system of battery racks, inverters, control systems, pad mounted transformers, and a 25 kV switchgear. It is interconnected into the existing 22.8kV distribution infrastructure adjacent to the facility.
Part of a $93 million electrical infrastructure upgrade, the 5-year project involved building a new Jepson Substation, complete reconstruction of the Dexter substation, and demolition of the existing Jepson Substation. McPhee provided services to Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) both facilities covering all aspects from site work to system construction to utility cutovers and commissioning and startup of systems ranging from 115kV down through 69kV and 13.8kV.
McPhee provided all electrical work for the five-story inpatient building with 130,000 square feet of space being built on the current Hartford Hospital campus. The scope of work included installation of equipment grounding system, power wiring connections and conduit for alarm panels and metering devices, complete power system studies including short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis studies, lighting control system & lighting, solid state UPS and lightning protection system.
McPhee provided this project with comprehensive electrical construction and engineering services aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the primary electrical infrastructure at the prestigious Loomis Chaffee School campus. Overall, the Primary Generator and 5kV Distribution Upgrade project was designed to modernize and future-proof the electrical infrastructure of the school, providing a robust, efficient, and sustainable power supply for years to come.
McPhee was instrumental in the buildout at the new UConn 2,600-seat, Toscano Family Ice Forum on the Storrs campus, providing all cabling, terminations and installations of the audio/video infrastructure and components to support the new arenas sound system, video systems and live broadcasts. Also, providing the electrical and low voltage infrastructure for their large scale LED video displays for state-of-the-art scoring system controls of the new scoreboard, goal lights and twenty (20) game clocks that are positioned throughout the arenas offices, locker rooms and training areas
McPhee performed on-site surveying, real time estimates, design assistance, and initial BIM modeling utilizing cloud collaboration with the project team. The work included all electrical, telecommunication, security cabling, and fire alarm scope of work for the 70,000SF build-out for new lab space for Merck. Scope and systems included design and installation of light fixtures and electrical distribution equipment, light fixtures, fire alarm, power distribution, and telecommunication.
McPhee installed 115KV and 345KV GIS switchgear to accommodate the new 115KV XLPE underground cable and 345KV HPFF cable positions at the Hyde Park substation. The scope included installation of three capacitors, replacing manifolds, and assembling potheads. Two cable trays were also installed along with ground level wiring and above grade conduit and wiring.
McPhee provides turnkey wireless and cellular construction services across New England and the mid-Atlantic. Services are specialized in the installation, maintenance, upgrade and repair of systems that rely on cutting-edge wireless and cellular technologies. As a vetted and trusted partner, McPhee’s expertise extends to the complex installation of these systems within and on the high voltage electrical transmission infrastructure.
On short notice, McPhee mobilized all necessary logistical support with an emergency response team and fleet of equipment. A large number of utility system crews are mustered to work after storms and in snow and ice over weekends and holidays to quickly restore electric service to communities, cities, and businesses. Typical crews include drivers, equipment operators, heavy equipment operators, as well as linemen who bring our fleet of bucket trucks, trailers, digger derricks and other related equipment to the restoration efforts.
